Reflections No.1 (Marcus,13)

1. Based on your understanding of facts and opinions, why do you think this important to reporters/ journalists in the world of online journalism?
2. How could the limitations explored in one of the articles be controlled?
3. What are some responsibilities of discerning readers?

I think that it is important that reporters and journalists take note of their personal opinions that tend to be non-factual and the factual information in the world of online journalism. This is very important and it is the responsibility of the writer to state what is his personal opinion and the fact because the world of online journalism is very big, in fact, once the post has been posted, it is available to the whole wide world with a population of more than seven billion people.

The limitations explored in any one of the articles posted online can be the fact that the postings may not be verified because some irresponsible people may just post comments or posts that actually cause ethical issues between the community and the audience that view the post. This is a very serious problem in Singapore as we are a community that promotes harmony between all races and this can easily be a crime.

Some responsibilities of discerning readers can be finding accurate sites or being able to derive what is an opinion and a fact as this can cause confusion and miscommunication between the reader and the author, not bring across what the author wants to point out to the audience.
