Activity 3: Analysis of Letter by Sean Phua (16)

The writer is say that in American ethos, each individual has their right to live, to be free and to be happy. And that all these rights are threatened when a citizen can easily obtain a gun.

The writer is also using logos by bringing to the congressman’s attention the immense number of deaths caused by guns. He also stated that the out of a large number of people who have used their guns at home, only a few used it to protect their families from an intruder. The rest were cases of fights among family members which resulted in the use of guns.

By bringing them to the attention of these cases, the writer uses pathos to bring across how tragic and unnecessary these deaths were as they could have mostly been prevented if there were stricter laws on the ownership of guns.
