Reflections 1 Wong Jing Yi

1. Based on your understanding of facts and opinions, why do you think this is important to the world of reporters/journalists in the world of journalism?
2. How could the limitations explored in one of the articles be controlled?
3. What are some responsibilities of discerning readers?

Since journalists have to be both fast and accurate, there is conflict between choosing to publish immediate information or waiting to verify facts ensuring accuracy. Publishing wrong information may also lead to trouble for the journalists, especially when news spreads like wildfire, particularly on the internet. Therefore they have to be able to quickly differentiate between fact and opinion to ensure the success of their occupation.

In articles, it may be difficult for the readers to distinguish between what is an actual fact and what is not. Therefore, some opinionated or sensitive comments have to be removed by the editors.

The readers have to be able to distinguish fact from opinion, and not let the articles mislead their thinking. Alternatively, they can check some reliable sources to verify whether the article they are reading is an actual fact or an opinion.
